Add more sort features for attendance.

Have the ability top sort by First Name and then Last Name instead of just Last,First.  That Starbucks or Smoothie King employee will remember your fist name before your last and so will most instructors.  Most instructors call their students by first name so this is naturally the first thought process.

Thanks so much for submitting your idea!

Which attendance entry function are you referring to?

The main one that uses a "sort by" function is the Class Roster. This seems to be the quickest way to add student attendance in by the iPad, but most instructors know students by their FIRST name rather than their last. While the pictures are helpful, the ability to see students by first name would make it much faster to check them in for the majority of my staff. Sorting by last name works well for checking in our larger families, but I hope that this would be a fairly easy thing to code in--as it is an option on Excel Spreadsheets if you have a "First Name" column and a "Last Name" column.

We have found that there is a long delay many times in trying to check students in via the Kiosk Mode (and especially Manual entry) and need to try and speed things up for our largest class sizes (sometimes 40+ people in a class).

Shannon, thanks so much. The details help and the CONTEXT around specific uses helps us to design for a more integrated solution.

Currently we are in the process of a new Kiosk design that you will love.  It will also connect to Class Roster so you will only have to check people in, that DIDNT use kiosk for whatever reason.  It will be easily apparent who IS and who isn't check-in to speed up the process even more.

When you say there is a long delay in checking students in via kiosk (especially Manual entry), I'd like to understand more clearly.  Are you using tablets for Kiosk or a desktop?  And, if your using Kiosk, what causes you to use Manual entry?

By manual entry, I more meant the instructors having to type in the students' names rather than the actual manual entry function, so I apologize for the confusion on that part.

I have only used the actual manual entry a few times, because I had to write names on the board and then go through and plug them in. Kiosk Mode or Roster are what we have been trying to use the most.  We have an instructor going around the room with a tablet/iPad in order to do attendance for each class.  There is a delay in typing the name and then once you select the correct person before that person appears on the screen and you can click the class to check them in.  Then there is sometimes a rather long pause before it gives any sort of "success" response to allow you to check in the next person.  The other night when we had a very full class it took about 10 minutes (beyond stretching/warm-ups) for the instructor to completely check every one into class due to the delayed response time.

And then there is one instructor who is not as familiar with the students last names when trying to check in, so he found the Roster MORE challenging than using Kiosk to add attendance (since that you just need to know a few letters of the student's name to start pulling them up.)  We do not leave a kiosk out for our students to check themselves in, as we feel this would cause more problems than solutions.

Having more sort options all around is needed for flexibility.  Whether in kiosk or roster mode.  Very little extra coding is needed to offer a couple more options when the sort by Last/First is already there.  Why not go ahead and offer it anywhere that Last, First is an option.  Then the bases are covered.
